In Zimbabwe Talks, Who Will Get the Real Power?

JOHANNESBURG — As negotiators for President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe and the opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai began power-sharing talks on Thursday in South Africa, they confronted one seemingly unbridgeable divide: which man would have the real executive power in a unity government?

Mr. Mugabe’s governing party, ZANU-PF, insisted that Mr. Mugabe, as the victor in a runoff that has been denounced internationally as a sham, would name any new government, The Herald, a state-owned newspaper, reported Friday.

Zimbabwe's terror, world's shame PDF Print E-mail

Zimbabweans can only despair after the sham runoff election preceded by Robert Mugabe's government terrorizing supporters of the opposition party.

The vicious megalomaniac has effectively devastated his country, which is now an economic basket case. Brutality, torture and murder are hallmarks of his regime and millions of Zimbabweans have fled the country.

The stench of international hypocrisy pervades the wretched state of affairs. The UN Security Council finally issued a statement expressing concern about election campaign violence, but even that was watered down at the behest of South Africa, Russia and China.

Children of Zimbabwe PDF Print E-mail
Dear government of zimbabwe

This is a letter of  concern from me, I am 18 and apart of the future of the country but how can there be a future when we cannot afford to go to school. How can there be a future when we have no food to eat. Is it fair that you go home at night and switch on your generators and boreholes while we have no power and water? This has nothing to do with politics but on behalf of the children of zimbabwe. I am asking you please to fix the economy and stabilise it,give people a better life. Look away from just blaming the west and just do something, you are so good at talking and yet you do not act. We need a change and it has to come from you not a new government but from you. So many ministers are out there chasing young school girls, and its true. I went to convent I knew girls who slept with ministers but yet the president criticises the behaviour of children in his independence speech but his friends are among the wrong. Our country  is said to be poor but yet we have
illegal gold trading happening only to benefit you. At the moment all you focus on is brutal election strategies that push people away, have you learnt nothing. If you were less selfish and more concerned about the welfare of the people you would not be having a hard time winning. Don’t make false promises, stop being corrupt help the people save the country you have run down. Do you know why africans will never succeed because we are greedy we take and take but don’t give back, those western leaders you crticise also steal from their countries but they give back knowing they want to take again. Yes the president has failed I used to look up to him but now he needs to stop talking so much and start making things right. People would stop crticising him if he just fixed the economy. Save the future of the country I love most. Please.

Thank you.
